Justice: what's the right thing to do - Michael Sandel

Ideas of Rawls: It's luck, not virtue, to be in a society that value a strength you end up having naturally. Our success is not really our own doing (natural capacity, class, society, etc).  First born children tend to be more successful than the other ones... That's not merit. Aristotle: In a justice problem, the purpose of what is at stake needs to be discussed together with the virtues it should honor. When distributing flutes, give the best flute to the best flute player. Politics are for people to be good, have a good life. Becoming virtuous requires practice. Politics/justice do that, it engages us in discussions (practice), it hence activates our reason and make us virtuous.  Sense of community (family, country) Fun fact: website with webcam at Mexican border, citizen can look and alert.  Réflexion. Same sex mariage. Why not remove mariage from the state and privatize it?(Michael Kinsley) It's hard to remove religious question to politics and science (e.g abortion). Obama: religion-spirituality need to be part of politics (here, complicated argumentation compared to liberal view) Final thoughts of the author: Politics/justice will bring questions beyond what universal morals, and discussion is needed.  Civism is important. It should be promoted by the government. Get people more together. Civic duty.  Difference of wealth is killing it. Use money from the rich to make great things for everyone (so that the rich get to use public services). This will help mixity and civism.  Moral issues and differences need to be discussed not avoided.  The author question the moral limit of markets (kidney, citizenship, military contractors, uterus)
